Second photo roll
This morning I headed straight to Brooklyn Bridge instead of work, and missed a meeting with my manager in the process but it's all good. In the afternoon I crossed Manhattan Bridge and headed to the lab to pick up my negatives from my first roll and drop off this second roll. So this second roll is exclusively Brooklyn and the area near the two bridges! Don't remember the precise type of film but it costed 7.99 and it's C-41 black and white. Highlights:
I'm really happy with the sharpness of these shots compared to the first batch. I think the sharpness of these shots were an improvement over the last because this batch was mostly taken in daylight, whereas the last batch was mostly taken during the nighttime. Honestly, I feel like shooting at sunset or later is a huge risk since I tried yesterday at Washington street and the results (without tripod and night flash) were truly awful. With night flash, nighttime pictures definitely come out sharp but it's super obvious flash has been applied which may or may not be an effect you're going for.
I am really loving the look of these black and white shots - however there are some visible splotches on the scans, and I have no idea who's responsible: it could be my camera, or the film, or the processing. Maybe I will ask the lab when I go pick up.
I watched some videos about photo composition last night. Rule of thirds, including a person, and centering are my favorite techniques. Many of the photos I included here would be significantly less interesting if the people inside were removed.
What's super annoying is that my Google Express order full of batteries and film, which I made solely for some juicy discounts Google was offering, was returned to sender because the courier (TForce) couldn't deliver to my office even though literally every other courier does it successfully! Of course Google promised a refund and sent some consolatory coupons but I've lost trust in their ability to deliver so I'm headed to B&H first thing tomorrow.
I'm flying to Hong Kong this Saturday for my exchange term. I found a good lab there, it's called Output Pro Lab and film scanning is significantly cheaper there than at Accurate Photo Shop in Brooklyn. So I will be getting my next rolls processed by them and not in NYC which means I won't be posting photos until Sunday. I will probably post my shitty photos on here tomorrow as well as a price comparison of film/scanning in NYC/HK/Tokyo since I need to figure out how I'll get the gear I need for my exchange term in HK.
